No Longer Five Blocks Away

Dearest Soffie Sis,
I was a little sad—but not much affected—when you announced a few months ago that you were going to move to the northside of the island. I was not much affected as I still thought that you were still going to be near me before you moved. I was not much affected until I read your announcement via e-mail.
The title of the e-mail started this whole reaction of my emotions. “Soffie’s Big Move Out of the Eastside.” I then realised that you will no longer be around me anymore…
Do you remember how we first met? I am sad to say that I am unable to recall much. I do remember talking to you in the computer lab back in the SAC days. We were surfing the net and you were rather excited, talking about your favourite female singer at that time which was Christina Aguilera.
Back then, I have only heard of Britney Spears but you were quick to say that they both came into the music scene around the same time.
After getting bored in the lab, we both wanted to go home. We walked home together because we found out that we lived just five blocks apart.
Then there was the time when DMC had to do a video shoot for SVA and we recruited you to help as extras on the “set”. Still remember the fight scene? Gosh, you looked so fierce!
Remember how excited we were when we found out at the end of 1999 that we were going to be classmates in the following year? I do. I remember because I thought that Class 3/6 of SAC 2000 had the best people.
Then there was the time when 7ners was formed and we were part of it. I am glad that we are part of this clique. If you had gone off entirely with Zeng Zi and Co. or Shebbrin and Co., I doubt that we would still meet each other as frequently as we have been doing for the past four years since graduation.
We were close physically. How did we become sisters? I do not even remember. How sad! But I am very glad that we have this relationship.
As I sit here, writing this, I am thinking back of the hip hop gigs we’ve attended together that lasts till late at night. Then we would go home together, stopping just a couple of bus stops apart. Now, if I were to go with you, we would have to part ways from there.
I’m going to miss going over to your place borrowing/returning/lending stuff, borrowing your room space to store my “illegal items” (and having your sister mixing up our CDs). Not to mention having fun with your sister as she hides from me.
Anyways ladies, it’s been a good 20 years in this house. i’m gonna miss it & i’m gonna miss being only 5 blocks away fm dine sis. 2 bus stops away fm SAC, 7 bus stops fm TP.
Yes, I will definitely miss you being only five blocks away from me.
Love, Dine Sis
