The setting up was long, tiring, but rather fun. We had to carry cartons and cartons of Chivas Regal (both 12 and 18 years), ginger ale and soda cans, bottled white and green tea, and a ton of ice. But we were rather well rewarded with Chicane doing their vocal warm ups for the night’s performance. Loud busts of their latest single “Bruised Water” could be heard repeatedly over and over again.
And I still love that song 🙂
We were given a tee, a lanyard that said “Crew”, (I wished it said “Bar Crew” or “Bartender” instead) a whistle and a light stick. Once we were ready behind our respective bars, the guests started arriving.
The moment I started pouring the alcohol, the night flew by. The music was awesome and working with equally awesome people just made the whole experience wonderful and indescribable. I worked non-stop for the next six hours besides two toilet breaks. (I drank too much and had to go really badly. The funny thing was that there was a really long queue for the loo and these bunch of nice tipsy gentlemen let me go first because I was a girl. Ha!)
I had a lot of “thanks, doll”, “love you, darling”, “muacks” and “you are awesome” given to me all night by the party goers. Most of them even wanted me to drink with them. I obliged a few and subsequently made my other bartender drink along as well.
It was pretty funny because the bar was obviously slammed, there was this crowd of guests that were waiting at the bar for their orders but I pulled him away from the bar, passed him his cup, clinked (can you clink plastic cups?) our cups and ordered him to drink up. The crowd waiting for their drinks? They cheered us on 😆 (Or maybe I remembered everything wrongly since I obviously was half gone by then…)
By the time the music stopped and we were told not to serve any more drinks, it was almost five in the morning.
The high is still lingering…
