That’s It

Do YOU think there’s an ‘end’ to the story?
Perspective, isn’t it? To me, it has ended. To others, it hasn’t.

What Per said in my previous entry’s comments made sense. When I wrote The Cat, that ending was my ending. Nothing more.

I guess it was the expectations of readers (in the sense that they were expecting some sort of ‘normal’ ending, perhaps?) that made me recall about past and present writing problems and think about the whole my-english-ain’t-that-good-after-all thing that made me write this entry.

It is just like watching Daenseo-ui Sunjeong (Innocent Steps). When I first found out (way before Nicole) about this movie, I was excited because it was starring my all-time favourite South Korean teenage actress, Moon Geun Young. Furthermore, I saw the trailer and it looked interesting.

Therefore, Jun Wei and I entered GV Plaza, expecting a good Korean movie.

Nicole actually managed to catch this movie three days before I did and she went on and on about how great the movie was and how much she wants to watch it again. I was a tad irritated by her constant “Oh, it’s so nice!” and “Man, I want to watch it again! It’s so nice!” (for three days straight) and wanted to just go, “Shoots, can you be silent?”

I digress.

The movie was nice, funny, a little sad (because I cried at one scene) but it did not make me go, “Man, I want to watch it again!” like most of the Korean chick flicks that I have watched. In fact, I felt that a second time would be too painful to watch. It’s not a bad movie, but it’s just… painful. (Not because it was sad. I am not sure how to explain it but that is how I feel.)

So you see, we—Jun Wei and I—expected something else but the movie did not provide it. Thus, we were disappointed.

Some movies are painful, but in a sense that they are heavy like there’s some kind of weight on you. They’re not sad in like crying and sentimental things, but just weird like that. I’ve heard that quite a few Korean plots for movies, television shows, and even music videos are tragic.

I never listen to anyone about movies. Even if they try to avoid it, someone ends up revealing plot T_T but even disappointing movies have their ups, usually…

This goes to show that no one is quite the same. Thus, a horrible movie to others might be splendid to you, and vice versa.

There are a lot of nice movies and shows out there. But perhaps only a handful that are worth watching all over again. And each time, you just grow to love it more.

The movie was painful but not sad, huh? Interesting…

Reminds me of Grave of the Fireflies—but that was plain painful and sad.

::sigh:: My list of movies to see grows while I have no time to watch them.

::schedules in time for movies—with pencil:: 🙂

Yeah… I had to admit I was disappointed. I didnt like the bit about Moon dancing with Park’s opponent at all. It was sickening to watch. I tot she would have tried to do something to get back at Park’s opponent and eventually she’ll be dancing with Park at the competitions. The part where they whacked his knee left a sickening resounding crack in my head though. I love the part about the theory of the fireflies and the way they talked about thier “marriage” during the interviews. It was, overall, a great performance by Moon and an entertaining one but doesnt compare well to a dance/romance flick like Shall We Dance?

Usually I step into cinemas not expecting anything, because I know I will end up being disappointed after that. So mostly I will just let the movie surprise me. 😛 Not that I even watch movies that often in the first place.

Pre-empting is a major disadvantage for the people who haven’t seen the movie. I know how you feel. People were talking about how “Land Of The Dead” was the awesome-estestestest movie ever, and at the end I wanted to smack that person and take my 9.50 back. 😀

But hey.. another movie, perhaps another reaction. =)
